TENDER CUT

Since Tender appeared halfway through last year with the attention-grabbing “Legion”, we’ve been keeping a very close eye. The somewhat mysterious London duo have been dripping out increasingly assured slices of brooding, R&B-electropop, helping them sit somewhere amongst the likes of SOHN, Caribou and Tame Impala. “Cut” is their latest, and the third track to come from their forthcoming, self-released EPII, due tomorrow (12th February). And it’s another dark, swooning, gently haunting effort that continues to showcase their boundless knack for this moreish style of pop. Building the song's rhythm from a hypnotic vocal sample which flickers throughout, the languid and breathy vocal weaves out above a wash of synth work and a typically funk-tinged bassline which we came to love in its predecessor “Lost”. With a live set in the pipeline, our eyes remain firmly on the impressive Tender. -G.O’B
